New York City’s Jobless Rate Falls in June While Newyorkcrossing Reports Almost 78,000 Job Opportunities in the City

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/19/2010 -- New York City’s unemployment rate fell for the sixth month in a roll to 9.5 percent, mainly as a result of hiring by financial firms. The data is from the state’s Labor Department. The state’s unemployment rate was 8.2 percent, which was below the national average.

The fall in the city’s jobless rate comes from hiring in the service sector. The main hiring was done in the financial industry, which added 2,400 jobs. Other sectors were professional and business services (4,500) and hospitality and leisure (3,400).

According to the niche job site, the sectors doing the most hiring are: accounting (5,979), financial services (8,555), engineering (3,698), information technology (14,573), healthcare (6,929), sales (6,350) as well as 2,757 jobs paying over 100K.
