Universal City, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/02/2014 -- Coinapult's updated BTC by SMS service works without the need for a data plan or internet connection. It gives users full control over their bitcoins from their phone.
The new system runs entirely through text messaging, giving users with the most basic of mobile phones, access to a full range of wallet services. These include send, receive, balance and transaction history checks and even Locks, Coinapult's tool to tie Bitcoin to FIAT, Gold and Silver to protect against volatility.
In championing the plain old text message, the service has the potential to reach out to some 4 billion people who own a mobile phone but have no internet connectivity, and may be a welcome tool within the remittances market.
'There are over 7 billion mobile phones in the world. The vast majority of these phones are not capable of running complex apps, and do not have internet connections. By bringing Bitcoin into this network, we hope to enable even the poorest people to send value as easily as they send a text message'. CEO, Ira Miller
At the moment the service operates through a Canadian telecoms partner meaning that anyone outside of Canada will need to pay international text messaging fees however, Coinapult are working hard to add local phone numbers in a number of markets over the next two months, including Spain, Sweden, Poland, Norway, Belgium and Finland.
