The Cadet Platform is an initiative from Nananke, founded by Romaine Waite, to bridge the education achievement gap. An estimated funding of $42,000 is required for the successful implementation of this project.
Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/04/2014 -- Longstanding disparities in education are widening the gap in academic, creative, and professional achievement between well-served and underserved students at an alarming rate. Romaine and the Nananke team are attempting to close the education gap that often prevents these individuals from realizing their dreams. Through this project, Nananke wants to create a platform to assist students (Cadets), especially the most vulnerable ones, by delivering educational resources to them in a novel and intuitive way.
The Cadet Platform will extensively use computers, 3D printers, custom-made tablets, smartphones, and mobile hotspots to help students develop skills and explore their creative passions. The Platform will encourage cadets to advance their academic skills and passion projects through a development-based reward system.
The unique methodology of the Platform will allow teachers and community members to efficiently determine the specific areas where students need the most help.
The metrics of the system will be based on:
- Feedback on students' mental, emotional, and physical well-being from parents and mentors
- Student socio-emotional self-report questionnaires
- Skills testing and advancement
- Automated performance tracking and reviews
Nananke's customized mobile devices will allow cadets to access the platform online and offline. Students in partner communities will also be able to install a mobile application to give them access. The goal of this project is to provide these devices to students, schools, and communities. Each of these devices will be priced at $100 and has a lifespan of more than four years.
The project team is currently developing their suite of tools for individual students, classrooms, schools, and communities.
Funds raised via Indiegogo will be used for:
- Software development: $16,000
- Hardware development : $10,000
- Initial infrastructure: $3,000
- Operations: $13,000
The campaign has a funding goal of $42,000, and will close on December 19, 2014.
