Tampa, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/11/2014 -- Buying gifts for tweens isn't easy. Falling somewhere between a child and a teenager, this age group has outgrown toys but is still young enough to want to a little fun around the holidays. Their gifts need to be the right part entertaining and age appropriate -- not juvenile, but still youthful. For frazzled parents who are down to last minute shopping, that can be a hard balance to find.
That is why MamaBear Family Safety App recently released a "Tween Gift Guide." Intended to help parents who might be struggling to pick out gifts, the guide includes a list of unique and fun gifts that tweens will both enjoy and appreciate.
"When kids hit the ages of 11 and 12, they become hard to buy for," explained Robyn Spoto, who is a mother of two and co-founder of MamaBear. "Toys aren't really an option anymore so you need to be more creative and get gifts more aligned with their interests."
The MamaBear Gift Guide suggests some non-traditional gifts such as giving a day of fun at an event or activity. Among the suggestions are enrolling a child in a class or workshop related to their hobbies or buying tickets to a concert, sporting event, or musical.
"Giving our kids experiences is just as important as giving them gifts," said Spoto. "Tweens are at an age when they start to enjoy trying new things. So instead of giving them an art kit, give them an art class. Sign them up for an activity or buy them tickets to an event, then make a day out of it. Go to lunch, enjoy the event and spend the whole day together. It will give your child a fun experience and bonus time with you."
Other gift ideas include magazine and gift boxes subscriptions and certain electronics that tweens are old enough to understand the value of and take care of throughout the year.
