The story starts off in Bar Harbor, Maine and tells the story of Bo, who has the love of his life and the mother of his two children taken from him, due to a tragic accident. Bo starts to question why he was put on the Earth in the first place and wonders about his purpose. He is lost in grief and no longer finds peace in the world. He then meets a beautiful angel named Gabby. Bo finds her irresistible and ends up falling in love with this angel, as he joins her in battling evil. It is through this angel that he starts to again discover his purpose in the World and to understand and appreciate God's unending love. However, once he realizes he must say goodbye to her also, he wonders why he must suffer through losing again someone he has loved so deeply. Gabby finds a way to help him carry on.
