Demand Grows for Immigration Lawyer Services in the Heartland for an Estimated 25,000 Immigrants

Omaha, NE -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/19/2015 -- With President Obama's speech on immigration reform just two months behind us, numerous states have seen a huge increase of clients needing legal counsel to obtain temporary deportation relief. Immigration lawyers in Omaha, NE and Des Moines, IA are preparing for this resurgence of applications and paperwork as many are trying to obtain government documentation.

On November 20, 2014 President Obama declared his executive action on immigration in which he shared his plan to postpone deportation to two groups of immigrants. He expanded the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to include older immigrants who were brought here as children by their parents and by increasing the deferral period from two to three years. He also created a program that would allow undocumented parents of lawful resident children to request deferred action.

When the president presented his revisions to immigration law late last year, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said that it would release applications in about three months for the expanded DACA program and in about six months for undocumented parents of children who are legal residents. As this time period is quickly approaching, many lawyers are expecting to be inundated with requests to help file these documents on behalf of their clients.

Unfortunately, the number of immigrant who will seek assistance is difficult to gauge. Of the estimated 39,000 unauthorized immigrants in Nebraska, 19,430 would be newly eligible for temporary deferral, said Lissette Aliaga-Linares, a research associate at the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. This is a conservative number compared with the Pew Research Center's estimate of 25,000 eligible Nebraska immigrants. Furthermore, "it is safe to say" that the beneficiaries would be 47 percent to 57 percent of Nebraska's illegal immigrants, the majority of those being undocumented parents, Aliaga-Linares added.

Fortunately, many clients will be able to connect with immigration lawyers using online resources in this predicted shortage of legal aid. Innovators like UpCounsel are able to transcend traditional boundaries of time, space, corporate, and geographical boundaries. These cyber lawyers represent a virtual marketplace of thousands of attorneys located all over the United States (including Nebraska and Iowa ). They are able to offer much more competitive costs for legal services since they are primarily based online and carry minimal overhead when compared to big law firms.

While the laws pertaining to immigration are in the balance, the need for immigration lawyers will obviously increase. Luckily, the use of the internet will allow all those who are seeking aid to find qualified assistance.
