Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/18/2015 -- With Mardi Gras underway in New Orleans, the city of Philadelphia is preparing their own celebration with the renowned Mummers string bands. In a parade through Manayunk on Sunday, February 22, 2015, the event is family-friendly and will feature numerous activities for those attending to interact and socialize with their favorite Philly Mummers.
The parade will last from 10 am until noon as the various string bands will strut down Main Street in Manayunk from Shurs to Green Lane. Those in the area are encouraged to attend as they'll be treated to a second Mummers parade in as many months. An event planned and organized by Joe DeCandido of ADVENT, a percentage of the funds received from local Manayunk businesses will be donated to the Mummers in an effort to keep the tradition alive.
Bracelets can be purchased for $10 that offers attendees discounts at participating Main Street retailers, as well as a pin that reads "I Am A Mummer." All proceeds from the sale of bracelets will go towards the Mummers. There are plenty of entertainment options and opportunities for pictures, face painting, raffles, awards, and silent auctions to add to the excitement of an additional Mummers parade in Philadelphia.
