Here’s how it works: Funny Translator translates back-and-forth, between English and variety of foreign languages, using Google Translator. The program then repeats the process up to 56 times. Each translation progressively becomes more distorted. Due to the cumulative effect of machine translation errors along the line, the final text differs significantly, warping the original phrase to an often incoherent, laughable translation.

Also, as an added bonus for all the tech junkies out there, the final METEOR score (a formula created to measure the accuracy of the mechanical translators) is calculated for each individual translation in the the cycle. The complete translation log is then displayed in full detail, providing users with a more technical assessment of the measured accuracy in the translation. It varies with each entry.

Particularly amusing translations can be shared instantly for public display. Users can submit their best translations to Funny Translator, where they are then voted on by visitors, and the funniest translations listed in order of rank. Site administrators will also post their favorite mistranslations to the Funny Translator Facebook fan page, which has already gathered a following of 6,000+ fans.
