The U.S. sales of packaged, loose, concentrated and natural teas enlarged by 3.6% in 2014, achieving an overall total of $1.8 billion, whereas RTD (ready to drink) tea sales in the US increased to almost $2.5 billion, a growth of nearly 4.4% over 2013 sales. According to beverage trends and available figures, the report expected increase within the RTD industry is likely to proceed for the next many years.

Based on the report, the growing tea demand in the United States has been pushed by three main facets: overall health awareness, positive media coverage and a growing retail industry. For nine straight years through 2014, sales of carbonated soda drinks have dropped as customers find healthier options. Fruit drinks, due to their large organic sugar content have experienced a backlash too.

Tea, on the contrary has been on the receiving end-of constant positive media coverage regarding research confirming health advantages of tea consumption — mostly green tea that is helpful in educating and motivating customers to drink tea.

Moreover, thousands of multi-unit and independent tea outlets are growing nationwide, providing higher customer access to better-quality specialty teas. Tea today makes up about 10% of Starbucks' U.S. retail sales.

Among packaged, loosed and concentrated teas in 2015, black tea bags extended their dominating trend. Powdered and loose iced tea blends followed, prevailed by white and green tea bags, herbal and medical tea bags.
