Phuket, Thailand -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/24/2010 -- Thailand is a 95% Buddhist country so Christmas is not a festival that officially appears in the Thai calendar, but with a large ex-pat community and Thais who love an excuse to have fun, Christmas is celebrated in fine spirit every year - especially in Phuket.
In fact, they started playing Christmas carols in Phuket’s Tesco on 19th November which took me by surprise. Then I noticed the frozen turkeys - even in Phuket, Christmas seems to get earlier each year.
However, it certainly won't be a white Christmas; in Phuket the average temperatures in December are 30.6°C so Christmas will be warm and sunny. It’s a good excuse to go to the beach or sit by the pool and relax with a glass or two of your favourite cocktail. No curling up in front of the fire in Phuket.
Many of the hotels, restaurants and bars in Phuket offer a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and festive music, but if you want to escape Christmas altogether it’s possible.
December is a good time to visit Phuket; the weather is at its best and people are in high spirits. The white sandy beaches are spotless and the clear blue, warm waters make them perfect for swimming and water sports.
Where are you spending your Christmas this year?
Wherever you may be, may I wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.
