A potential problem with the machinery used to tighten the spindle nuts on the front axles of both vehicles, as well as the damper attachment bracket bolts for the Pilot, may cause the front suspension of a small number of these vehicles to fail. A flaw in the software for the equipment used for this assembly process was identified at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC (HMA). This concern is isolated to vehicles produced at HMA.

Owners of either identified vehicle, either the 2010 and 2011 Honda Accord in Lisle or the 2011 Honda Pilot in Lisle, will receive notification to bring their vehicle to one of the leading Honda dealers serving Chicago for inspection.

Honda Accords recalled in Lisle will receive an inspection at Honda of Lisle and the spindle nuts will be replaced. After inspection of the Honda Pilot, the dealer will replace the spindle nuts and the front damper attachment bracket bolts if necessary.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification from Honda that their vehicle requires repair. Notification to customers started on December 23, 2010.
