iThrough will donate a figure calculated by the number of Twitter retweets a message gets.

Carol Chang, the Public Relations manager for iThrough said the ecommerce site wanted to give a little back to the online world which had been so kind.

The Apple accessories site has only been online for a few months but the parent company has been growing since 2006 thanks to the support of a loyal customer base.

“Charity work isn’t something you’d usually associate with electronics sellers or Chinese merchants but this is something iThrough would like to change,” according to Mrs Chang.

Grassroots.org is the recipient because of its unique role as a NGO service provider.

“Instead of fighting for a specific cause Grassroots provides charitable groups with the services they need to carry on their work in the digital world at no cost,” said Mrs Chang. “This is vital in today’s online society where making any type of impact is impossible without an online presence.”

The group ‘adopts’ other charities then provides them with administration, translation and website building and management services free of charge.

According to Carol Chang the Apple accessory seller was hoping that Twitter users would retweet the message:

“iThrough hopes the tweet will be retweeted at least 500 times,” said Mrs Chang. “Grassroots is able to do a lot with very little money so iThrough wants to make sure it gets the most possible.”
