Lax Upgrade Will Create over 39,000 Jobs, Losangelescrossing Finds over 41,000 Jobs in City

The $4.1 billion project will help the construction industry and create economic benefits to the LA metro area. Other sectors expected to benefit from the project are insurance, finance, anufacturing, retail, and real estate.

 

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/03/2011 -- The modernization project undertaken at the Los Angeles International Airport will end up generating 39,900 jobs in the region over the next several years.

The $4.1 billion project will help the construction industry and create economic benefits to the LA metro area. Other sectors expected to benefit from the project are insurance, finance, manufacturing, retail, and real estate. The figures have been gathered from the L.A. County Economic Development Corp.’ 47-page report.

The jobs created will pay around $2.62 billion in worker wages and most of them will be in the construction sector. The estimate is that around 24,500 construction sector jobs will be generated over the next few years. The county’s current unemployment rate is 12.3 percent.

LosAngelesCrossing, a job aggregator site, has been able to find around 41,000 jobs in Los Angeles so far. The sectors with the highest number of openings are healthcare (6,000+), managerial (6,000+), information technology (4,000+), sales (4,300+), retail (3,500+), and blue-collar (3,500+).
