Doylestown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/24/2016 -- In light of the emergence of a rare certified MS-66 Mint State 1799 Capped Bust Right 10 dollar gold eagle coin, which went up for auction in Baltimore earlier this March, SAFE® Collecting Supplies paid tribute to the occasion by releasing an article via their website regarding information about three other rare United States gold coins. The online retailer of coin display cases delved into facts about the Capped Bust Right small eagle half eagle, Capped Bust Left half eagle and the Liberty half eagle.
Kurt Braun, who heads up the popular website for numismatists, discussed the Capped Bust Right small eagle half eagle first. Produced between 1795 and 1798, "it was America's first gold coin," said Braun. Featuring a bust of Liberty in a cloth cap on its front side, the 15 stars embossed behind her represent an America that only included 15 states in its Union at the time. The backside features a relatively scrawny eagle, perched on a palm branch, and holding an olive branch wreath in its beak.
Next, Braun went on to describe a slightly younger coin, produced between 1807 and 1812, also featuring a cloth-capped Liberty, this time facing leftward. It also features an eagle on its reverse side, which has its wings spread, and is perched upon an olive branch. It also wears the Union shield on its chest.
Braun finally noted the Liberty half eagle coin, which yet again features a leftward-facing Liberty, but this time is adorned by a crown. The coin had a long mint run, and was struck (at all seven mints) between 1839 and 1908.
Beyond his extensive knowledge of coin collecting, Kurt Braun's company exhibits expertise in other areas of collecting, including stamps. His website offers stamp albums to philatelists interested in protecting their treasured collections.
