Harrison College Announces Center for Leadership Development Scholarship Program

Harrison College Annual Scholarship Intended For Graduates Of The CLD Indianapolis Program

Indianapolis, IN -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/21/2011 -- Jason Konesco, president of Harrison College (http://www.harrison.edu), a post-secondary, proprietary educational institution aimed at business, industry, and the public sector, has announced the Harrison College-Center for Leadership Development (Indianapolis) scholarship program. Each school year, starting with the 2012 year, Harrison College will award one full scholarship (approximately $50,000) to an alumnus of the Center for Leadership Development program, which was established in 1977 after Indianapolis community leaders identified several reasons why African-American youth were failing to achieve or even aspiring to achieve academic, college or career success. The CLD established itself with the mission of empowering minority youth to see their potential and take action to fulfill their goals. Since 2004, the CLD has been in partnership with Indiana colleges and universities to award scholarships to eligible CLD alumni. Students who have successfully completed Self-Discovery/Career Exploration and College Prep are eligible for scholarship consideration. For 2011, CLD scholars received more than $1.8 million in scholarships from 18 partner institutions and organizations.

Applicants must have completed the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) program and enroll at Harrison College. To submit a scholarship application online, visit http://www.harrison.edu and complete the application by February 1, 2012.

QUOTES:
“Harrison College is pleased to cooperate with the Center for Leadership Development to receive and review applicants for our new scholarship program,” said Konesco. “We will offer these scholarship recipients a variety of learning environments including online, traditional classroom or a combination of both, and prepare them for success in their chosen profession.”

“Through the commitment of Harrison College to award this fabulous scholarship to a CLD alum, Harrison has taken a significant step in helping CLD advance its important mission of empowering African-American youth of Central Indiana to realize the highest levels of academic, college and career achievement,” said Dennis E. Bland, president of the Center for Leadership Development. “There are few partnerships more exciting to me than working to create rich college education opportunities for youth and their families. We thank Harrison for this tremendous commitment to CLD and the youth we serve.”

DETAILS:
- If selected, the recipient will receive a full program scholarship (approximately $50,000) toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in any of Harrison College’s five Schools or The Chef’s Academy starting in the fall term.

- The award will be divided out evenly over each quarter, based on the length of the program. Students may only apply once, and any student who withdraws, or changes to an ineligible program of study, automatically forfeits any remaining scholarship funds.

- The Harrison CLD Award guarantees assistance of full tuition and fees along with books. The maximum annual award is $16,000, totaling $64,000 over four years if the student pursues a Harrison College bachelor’s degree program. This scholarship is paid toward the student’s bill after all other state and federal grant money has been applied.

- The Harrison Leadership scholarship is non-transferrable and may not be offered as a refund other than for book purposes with a maximum being based on the book allotment for a student’s chosen program of study.

- The scholarship is for four years of consecutive full-time undergraduate enrollment (16 terms or 20 terms for TCA). The student will be required to maintain a current term GPA of 3.0.
