Grimsby, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/24/2016 -- According to new research, demand for food in the Scottish organic sector is rapidly increasing with a rise of 2.6% in the last year. The figures from Kantar Worldpanel show that circa £52.6 million was spent on organic produce in Scotland with the demand increasing well into this year.
The figures may not come as a surprise with many people now changing their diet and sourcing healthier options from sustainable sources. The Soil Association have confirmed the trend and are expecting it to continue to grow from strength to strength, reporting growth of 4.9% across the whole of the UK worth a total of £1.9 billion pounds. Independent Scottish retailers report an increase in sales over the last 12 months and in the UK, this figure has risen to 7.5%.
A spokesperson for Easy Grow Hydroponics said "The rise of organic food is incredibly pleasing as it becomes more accessible to people the more production increases. People are wising up and making better choices when it comes to diet and the influxes of suppliers now give much more choice to the consumer than ever before."
