Sinclair Law Speaks out Against Distracted Driving

Personal injury attorney in Melbourne, Florida, Brad Sinclair, is an active crusader in creating awareness about automobile accidents in his state.

Melbourne, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/23/2014 -- Distracted driving is quickly becoming the new national menace across the United States, particularly when it comes to teens. With lack of attention to the road, the rate of accidents understandably skyrockets. This is why Brad Sinclair, an accident attorney in Melbourne, Florida, is a partner with distraction.gov.

“I am a big believer in distraction.gov’s ‘5 to drive’,” Sinclair says. “The five are as follows: no cell phone use while driving, no extra passengers, no speeding, no alcohol, and no riding without a seatbelt. These are very simple rules that parents can enforce in order to ensure that their teen driver stays safe on the road.”

Sinclair has worked with a number of automobile accident victims during his time as a Florida personal injury lawyer. Last year there were more than 1,700 fatalities and 840,000 vehicle crashes on public highways alone. Distracted driving certainly factors into this number: in 2012, 3,328 people were killed in distraction-affected crashes, according to distraction.gov. While that’s slightly down from 2011, that’s still a really high number, according to Sinclair.

“Driving while distracted can be a huge problem, and can result in injury, death, and bereavement,” Sinclair warns. “Make sure to sit down and have a serious talk with driving teens about the dangers of distracted driving, and take away cell phones if necessary. A serious accident at high speeds is no joke, and can cause injury to others as well as to the occupants in the car with the distracted driver. Protect loved ones by taking distracted driving seriously.”

Sinclair also reminds parents to set good examples and follow the rules mentioned as well. While driving and talking on a cell phone at the same time are perfectly legal in Florida, it can still prove fatal if done at the wrong time. Sinclair advises that both parents and children should keep focused on the road while in a motor vehicle.
