For her latest album release, Outta Party, singer-songwriter Susan Hedges aims to uplift the souls of her listeners much as she uplifted herself above difficult circumstances which set her apart from the rest of the music world.
Las Vegas, NV -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/28/2014 -- For a hypnotizing and ever uplifting sound from an accomplished solo artist, tune in to Susan Hedges, an established wonder on vocals, keyboards and guitar. Over the years, she has overcome trying situations to establish her music career, beloved by fans and critics alike, with songs that have been described as “elegant” and a talent that is “on the threshold of recognition.”
Sue began writing songs when she was nine years old and has flourished in her singing-songwriting career ever since. She was surrounded and enveloped by music as a child and was inspired to play piano by listening to Jerry Lee Lewis. She looked to early influences like Tom Waits and Chip Taylor (whom she has since worked with). As she has progressed and evolved her music into its current form, she has been influenced by artists such as Black Eyed Peas and Robin Thicke. Many compare her to some of her other musical influences, including Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Will.i.am and David Guetta.
Throughout her life and career, Sue has overcome a tremendous challenge while on her road to acclaim—complete blindness. While this has led to some difficulties in promotion and other aspects of her music career, she has made the journey with utmost confidence in her music and talent and has blossomed impressively as a result.
Most recently, Sue is preparing to release her latest recording effort, Outta Party, which will be showcased at The End Club in Nashville, TN, on May 2nd, 2014, and follows other recordings such as Kiss My Attitude and Soundtrack of My Dreams. For this album, she seeks to inspire an uplifting of her listener’s spirits. She feels the present is the right time for some “happy” songs, particularly after a winter that was torrential for some parts of the country in addition to those struggling from the economic recession. She aims to provide a feel-good album for her current and potential fans in their time of need.
Sue has won several awards over the years in honor of her successful career and the critically acclaimed music that has fueled those accomplishments. She won the Merseyside BT Woman of the Year Award and placed 3rd in the main category for “Best Newcomer.” She also won the BBC Radio Merseyside Best Vocalist Award and Dada Fest’s “Young Performer” from North West Arts Forum. In addition, she was awarded the “Spirit of Hope Award” from Hope University. Sue has been a finalist in several songwriting competitions as well, including in the UK Songwriting Competition, MBF Songwriting Contest and Linda McCartney Songwriting Competition.
At the International Pop Overthrow Festival in Liverpool, England, she was voted most popular artist/act for two years running, and she was voted “The Act Most Likely to Succeed” and the act most people wanted to see there again next year. Also in the survey, three of her other songs were featured in the Top 20.
Besides her awards, Sue has also enjoyed other treasured accomplishments, such as headlining The Liberty Festival in Trafalgar Square, London, for two years running, which she considers one of her greatest accomplishments. She has also opened for UK artists Paul Young and Billy Bragg and U.S. artists like James Burton. She also joined renowned guitarist Albert Lee on his 2012 UK tour (singing and playing keyboard).
Sue’s music has been licensed for various media over the years. Her song “The Fighting Kind” is an autobiographical song that was featured as the title track in a BBC documentary. In fact, a line from the song, “I ain’t looking for your sympathy,” was used as the title of the documentary.
In the short term, Sue plans on launching her new album and furthering her education by finishing her Ph.D. in Music at Liverpool University—a true testament to her complete dedication to music and her future career.
You can hear her music digitally via CD Baby, who will coordinate other distribution deals with iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. If you’d like to experience her gripping live performance, check out her upcoming shows:
