Las Vegas, NV -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/13/2014 -- Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Suns of Stone deliver a modern edge to a band that reveres the many influences of 60s and 70s rock ‘n’ roll and southern blues rock. They are down-to-earth and focused on performing and sharing their music whenever possible, first and foremost.

The group is comprised of four confidently talented Canadian rockers: Alan Charlton (vocals), Andrew Erlandson (bass), Jimmy King (guitar) and Alex Scott (drums). Together the four have drawn an impressive fan base with both high-energy shows and high-quality recordings, such as their EP simply called The EP (2012) and their full-length self-titled debut, Suns of Stone (2013), both of which were self-published.

As for some of their songs in particular, “Rise Up” features a rolling line in both the guitar and bass that feels the most southern of their three YouTube videos. Energetic and driven, Charlton’s vocals sound the most like their 60s and 70s influences on this track as well. The guitar takes on various interludes of serious shredding, including a dexterous guitar solo with a wild ending that brings the song back up from the slower bridge into the hard-rocking chorus once again.

“Stormbringer” takes it down a notch with some steady, hard-pounding rhythms and bass. The vocalist tears it up with a slower, deeper and more soulful verse and raspy, urgent singing in the chorus. The guitar player too switches between slower and steady and fast and explosive fingerings for an all-around great effort.

Their track “Hold on Me” was also selected to be included in WiFi PR’s Indie Anthems Vol. 3. The intro’s guitar melody returns periodically throughout the song and is a driving force that both breaks up and powers up different sections of the track. It is also referenced in the tail end of each line of the verse. The chorus is straightforward and anthem-like, which makes it a perfect match for the digital sampler.

You can clearly hear their musical influences in each of their songs, including 60s and 70s rock, particularly in the vocals, and southern rock and blues, particularly in some of the guitar riffs and rhythms. Each of their members comes from a different background, from metal and soul to folk, and they each add their own twinge of originality to make the Suns of Stone stand out from the rest of the bands in their genre.

They have been most compared to bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Black Crowes, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, Rival Sons and The Black Keys, all of whom are primary influences, a true testament to both their talent and their recognizable and beloved sound. As far as the other artists that have influenced them, they name The Allman Brothers, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, The Doors, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and others.

Of their biggest accomplishments, Suns of Stone rank opening for Canadian blues rock band Head of the Herd and opening for the Zombies at The Sound Academy as two of their best. For The Zombies show in particular, they had to get up in front of an unfamiliar audience and figure out how to win them over, but they played their hardest and soon got the entire crowd behind them and got them really pumped up for the headlining act—as any good opener should.

Over the next year, Suns of Stone will prove themselves to be a worthy band to garner new fans and recognition while spreading word of their music and debut album, Suns of Stone. For them, album sales are a second priority, which they call “a bonus.” Instead, they focus on what they feel is most important: sharing their music and getting the message out there. As an example, instead of a physical release, they will be releasing a single for radio purposes only later this fall.
