Waxhaw, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/13/2014 -- The Isabella Santos Foundation, a foundation for children with cancer, has announced they have reached and surpassed their goal of raising one million dollars for the fight against Neuroblastoma. With the goal completed, there are no plans of stopping anytime soon. Over the past seven years, they have raised money through various charity events to reach this feat, with their Annual 5K for Kids Cancer being the largest event for the foundation.
It was during their September race that they were able to reach their goal. The event brought in over $300,000, which was almost half the total amount of money they had raised over the past seven years. The charity has come a long way from its first 5K where $7,000 was raised after an attendance of 180 people. The race has grown from a simple 5K to a day filled with activities like a Kid Zone and a silent auction, as well as the addition of a 10K course.
The Isabella Santos Foundation raises money for the research of a cure for Neuroblastoma, which is a cancer that affects thousands of children and infants every year. The cause is dear to the Santos family whose daughter Isabella fought the disease from the time she was just two years old. During this 5 year battle, the family set up this organization to help find a cure for their daughter, as well as others who were so bravely fighting the disease. In the words of Isabella’s dad, Stuart Santos, “We just knew we had to do more”.
Through the continued support of their dedicated sponsors, volunteers, and donators, The Isabella Santos Foundation has become one of the largest local Charlotte non-profit organizations.
