Slough, Berks -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/16/2012 -- The Wikipedia definition of blog is: "A blog (a portmanteau of the term web log)[1] is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first). Until 2009 blogs were usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often were themed on a single subject. More recently "multi-author blogs" (MABs) have developed, with posts written by large numbers of authors and professionally edited. MABs from newspapers, other media outlets, universities, think tanks, interest groups and similar institutions account for an increasing quantity of blog traffic. The rise of Twitter and other "microblogging" systems helps integrate MABs and single-author blogs into societal newstreams. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog." Source
After the recent Google panda and penguin updates guest blogging on relevant and niche related blogs has grown in popularity, this is because it is considered a white hat method to obtain high quality and in-content links that Google trusts.
See more information on link building post penguin and panda here. The problem is that many blog owners are now getting bombarded with low quality, spun and irrelevant blog posts. Google have recently released a webmaster help video warning that they will be looking to penalize writers producing low quality content for the sole purpose of gaining links, they will also penalize sites publishing such content.
One UK-based writer has however been producing extremely high quality content and has perfected a method to get this content published on quality blogs, Mark from pandaseo.co.uk writes all guest posts himself, usually the post is written specifically for the blog it is due to be published on.
He said "Guest blogging can be very effective if done properly, last month we got some articles published on sites relevant to our clients niches and already the pages these posts reside on have page rank."
Page rank shows Google's' trust in a webpage, it is used as a ranking factor when the search engine decides what pages to show for a users query and what weight is passed to any sites linked to from that page.
The higher the page rank and relevancy the better the link. Mark is using guest blog posts as a means to acquire links for his own sites and recommending his clients do the same.
