According to the British Soil Association, the key authority for organic product certification, sales of organic produce rose in the UK to £1.95bn in 2015, an increase of 4.9%. Whilst organic produce was on the rise, sales of non-organic produce dropped by almost 1%.

Organic food sales were at their highest in 2008, reaching £2.1bn prior the recession which impacted heavily upon growth. The Soil Association speculate that influxes of independent suppliers are directly responsible for a rising market share.

The market is changing rapidly as consumers look for a wide range of produce online and now in independent stores, reducing the amount of organic sales through supermarkets. Sadly, despite the growth of organic sales over the last three years, the amount of land available for organic farming has declined.
