USINPAC Celebrates US-India Ties with Event at Capitol Hill

Community Reception adds To the Bonhomie of PM Modi’s Visit to the US

 

Reston, VA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/13/2016 -- As Prime Minister Modi met with President Obama at the White House and addressed the Joint Session of the US Congress, a flurry of diplomatic and community events were held to celebrate the historic visit and the new vibrancy in the US-India partnership. USINPAC hosted an Indian American community reception on June 8th at Capitol Hill to recognize and honor the efforts of Indian Americans who contributed towards the deepening of the US-India bilateral relationship. The last decade witnessed a boom in trade, investment and cooperation between the US and India, now hailed as the 'enduring Global partners of the 21st century.'

Attendees at the community reception included many prominent Indian Americans, Members of the Senate and House Committees and Caucuses and friends of India.

The community reception was held at the House Small Business Committee, Rayburn House Office Building (RHOB) in Washington DC.

In a joint statement released after President Obama and Prime Minister Modi met at the White House, the two leaders affirmed the increasing convergence in their strategic perspectives and emphasized the need to remain closely invested in each other's security and prosperity. Roadmaps have been marked to cooperate further in the fields of Climate and Clean Energy, Clean Energy Finance, Global non-proliferation, securing the Domains: Land, Maritime, Air, Space, and Cyber, on the fight against terrorism, bolstering economic & trade ties and in Science, Technology and Health and people to people ties. At the address to the joint meeting of the Congress, received with nine standing ovations, Modi invoked the teachings of Martin Luther King and Swami Vivekananda remarking "Our nations may have been shaped by diverse histories, cultures and faiths, yet our belief in democracy for our nations and liberty for our countrymen is common." After his speech, Modi was feted by the House and Senate foreign relations committees and the India Caucus, which witnessed an over capacity crowd of Indian Americans who had travelled from across the United States to participate in the festivities.

At the community reception Mr. Sanjay Puri, Chairman of USINPAC said, "We have made rapid progress in cooperation between the US and India. In the past, we witnessed many challenges. Now we are in a strong and vibrant phase. We are cooperating in defense, economy, security, clean energy. USINPAC was there to set the foundation and we will redouble our efforts to take this partnership forward."
