WWII Veteran Honored by French Association

The French Association, Rock of the Marne, has named WWII Veteran Charles "Chick" Bruns an honorary member at their annual meeting held in Holtzwihr, France.

 

Champaign, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/25/2014 -- The French Association, Rock of the Marne, has named WWII Veteran Charles "Chick" Bruns an honorary member at their annual meeting held in Holtzwihr, France. Chick is a WWII Veteran and served in the 10th Combat Engineers of the 3rd Division during the invasion & liberation of southern France.

Members of the Association became aware of the WWII daily diary of Chick Bruns being published at www.70yearsago.com by his son John. The diary is published daily, seventy years to the day he wrote it. In an email, A: Michel PASCAL, Past Association President and current Treasurer stated that " I'm reenactor of WWII 3rd Inf Div, our group represent Co A - 10th eng.". This is the same outfit Chick was in and Michel continues "He is the only member of the 10th engineer that we still know in life. "

Daily Diary of WWII Veteran Charles Bruns

The website is not only the daily diary but also includes photos that the WWII Veteran took as well as the letters he wrote home to his parents during his WWII deployment. Chick was involved in the invasions of Africa, Sicily, Italy, Anzio and France during his war experience serving from October 1942 through August of 1945 where he ended up at Hitlers mountain home in Berchtesgaden, Germany.

Organized in 1991, the Rock of the Marne Association aims to bring together collectors of uniforms, equipment, vehicles and other equipment used in the U.S. Army and specifically the U.S. Third Infantry Division during the Second World War. Located in eastern France, currently there are 25 active members in the Association, some members are from Switzerland.

The Rock of the Marne Association participates in official ceremonies, reenactments and the Memorial Day ceremonies at the Epinal American Military Cemetery in France. During this ceremony a wreath is made to commemorate the memory of those young Americans who came to fight for their freedom, many loosing their lives in France and Europe. The Association also has a color guard with an official flag of the 3rd Infantry Division that was given to them by the division commander when the unit was stationed in Germany.

Charles Bruns will turn 95 in April of this year and looks forward to reading his diary daily as he has not opened the book since the war ended.
